A 22-year-old student of IIT Bombay allegedly died by suicide after jumping from a hostel building in the early hours of Saturday, according to Mumbai Police.
The student, a native of Delhi, was pursuing a course in the science stream at the premier institute. The tragic incident occurred around 2:30 am, police officials stated.
He was rushed immediately to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival, police confirmed.
A fellow student, who was on the hostel terrace speaking on the phone at the time, is reported to be an eyewitness to the incident.
The Powai Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the student’s death.
Further details, including the possible motive, are awaited as the investigation continues.
